Danmarks Nationalbank invites applications for visiting PhD student fellowships. Visiting fellows stay at the bank for the duration of 6 to 12 months to work towards the completion of their PhD dissertation.
Visiting fellows will be allocated office space at Danmarks Nationalbank and will be provided with a monthly stipend (currently around DKK 27,000 or EUR 3,600). The bank provides Danish health insurance and may also cover research expenses and travel cost. Fellows can be granted access to a wide variety of data collected by the bank itself, as well as access to data hosted at Statistics Denmark through the bank’s general agreement with Statistics Denmark. We strongly encourage use of this data for relevant research projects.
The fellowship is targeted at advanced PhD candidates who have completed all their coursework. We are especially interested in PhD candidates whose dissertation topics are in Macroeconomics or Finance and other related fields which are relevant to the bank’s agenda, such as Labor Economics or Household Finance. Fellows are expected to be present at the bank and participate in the activities of the Research Unit. They must maintain good standing in their academic program at all times, and will be assessed for continuing in the visiting program after 3 to 6 months. Academic work that is produced during the fellowship is expected to be published in the Danmarks Nationalbank working paper series after the visit has ended.
To be considered, applicants should submit:
- A cover letter (at most two pages) including the desired time and duration of their stay, as well as their expected PhD graduation date and a discussion of career plans after graduation
- A detailed CV
- A proposal for a research project to be completed during the visit, including a description of any data requirements (at most 5 pages)
- A letter from the director of their PhD program supporting their application
- Two letters of recommendation, including one from their main PhD adviser
- Completed research papers (if available)
Please combine all application materials except for reference letters and completed research papers into a single PDF and upload the PDF in the resume field of the application form. Reference letters and completed research papers should be sent directly to Tobias Renkin (tobr@nationalbanken.dk).
The deadline for applications is March 15, 2020. For questions about the visiting PhD student fellowship program contact Tobias Renkin (tobr@nationalbanken.dk).
Citizens of a country outside the Nordic countries or the EU/EEA must hold a residence permit in order to reside in Denmark during the fellowship.
